Eero Aarnio: Having a Ball

According to legend, Eero Aarnio’s mother placed him in a wicker basket when he was a baby – and when the future furniture designer looked up at the sky through the circular opening, it influenced his decision to design the Ball Chair as an adult. In any case, the Ball Chair became an instant classic. It debuted at the Cologne furniture fair in 1966 – and today, like almost no other piece of furniture, it epitomizes the inventiveness of 1960s popular culture.
