Dream tree house: Polestar KOJA

A change of perspective - we like that. Unfortunately, however, they happen far too rarely. A tree house in the middle of the forest can help. Like KOJA, the sustainable micro-space that was one of last year's Polestar Design Competition winners - and has now become a reality in Finland.

When we were younger, some of us dreamed of having our own tree house, and some built one. And Kristian Talvitie? He designed his very own model last year, and it won him an award at the Polestar Design Contest. In Finland, his sustainable vision called »KOJA« has now become reality - and is thus providing new perspectives. Which at this point is to be understood in a decidedly ambiguous way, please. On the one hand, purely spatially: In the forest, at eye level with owls and squirrels - but also purely in terms of thought. Because locally manufactured, the somewhat different tree house provides lasting stimulation. Or as its designer Kristian Talvitie himself puts it:

"Most designers look at design from the user's perspective, I also look at things from the environmental perspective. There should be a symbiosis between the design and the place where people meet."

His goal, then: to bring people closer to nature without traveling itself, a kind of movement that thus starts first and foremost in the mind. And just below the treetop, supported by a glazed panoramic facade and maximized views from the treetops. The result? A holistic experience in a natural environment that is also sustainable. Also thanks to the locally sourced materials already mentioned.

Incidentally and naturally, design features and brand values of Polestar also flow into this - which then also excited Maximilian Missoni, Head of Design at Polestar:

»We were fascinated by the idea and how it translates our brand values into a different environment. That was the deciding factor for us and we were so impressed that we decided to build it«
