Massive Talent: Being Nicolas Cage
Ever since Being John Malkovich, we’ve known just how hilarious films can be in which actors play themselves. Now there’s The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent, in which Nicolas Cage plays a fictionalized version of himself as a washed-up actor with family problems and money troubles (the latter of which he’s always had in real life) who accepts a $1 million invitation from Mexican billionaire Javi Gutierrez (a brilliant Pedro Pascal) to appear at his birthday party. The result is an amusing action comedy that ironically plays with Cage’s own celebrity status. Another fun part of the film is the conversation between the old Nicolas Cage and a digitally enhanced younger version of himself.
