MINI Clubman SD: Happiness Squared
But first things first: This MINI Cooper SD Clubman has everything a MINI needs. Starting with the sporty radiator grille, which signals a sort of animal assertiveness, through to the LED taillights with Union Jack design, sure to delight the heritage faction. Not to mention the excellent sound, courtesy of MINI Connected Media. The little big car also has plenty of storage room for active leisure activities. With the rear seat folded down, you get 1,250 liters of cargo volume That’s enough to fit two snowboards and all the equipment. So nothing stands in the way of a trip into the wild blue yonder.
Which brings us to the topic at hand. MINI has even gone one better. With a Multitone Roof. What that is? A nice touch of color. From the dark San Marino Blue at the front, the paintwork features a color gradient that moves through the lighter Pearly Aqua in the middle and then on to Jet Black at the rear. Quite easy to do, actually, if you know how. MINI uses the so-called wet-on-wet process. This enables smooth transitions between the colors, with a finish that varies from model to model. That’s physics for you. Individualization ex works, so to speak.
So . . . blue. Physics also dictates that shorter wavelengths of light store significantly more energy than longer ones. And blue is a damn short wavelength – which means it’s packed with energy. And that’s always been one of MINI’s main strengths: packing maximum power into the shortest possible vehicle length. With maximum driving pleasure as an optional extra. Blue can even boost our own psychological strength. Thanks to its high blue content, daylight stimulates the production of serotonin, the neurotransmitter responsible for satisfaction, happiness and optimism. Which makes blue the perfect color for a MINI – even if it’s just the roof. But what would the advocates of traditional values have to say about that? Proba- bly that a MINI makes you feel happy no matter what, so there’s actually no need for all this color nonsense. Which is understandable, of course . . .
