What we want: Konstantin Arnold's road trip on film

The road trip begins on a mountain, leads through rain and to beaches and villages before ending at the sea. A strikingly blue Jaguar F-Type also makes a cameo appearance in Konstantin Arnold's ramp story. But above all, the question of how one actually wants to live one's life. A Super 8 film of the journey, which is well worth seeing.

In life and on road trips, the same thing applies: sometimes, it's the detours that make the journey truly beautiful. But you often only notice them when you look back on the big picture. Preserving the good experiences along the way?

It's best to do what Konstantin Arnold and his girlfriend did last summer on the coast of southern Italy, in a blue Jaguar F-Type: You capture the whole thing in a seven-page text, numerous analog photographs and have a talented director producer like drian Kuchenreuther produce a Super 8 movie that has now been published. Wonderfully tangible and ephemeral yet also everlasting. With the idea of not wanting to see as many places as possible, but rather to see a lot in a few places.

The appropriate theme of the journey and the works created in the process: Timelessness and its pursuit. Taking one's own infatuation to the most wonderful of places, getting swept up in it in this environment, and the question of what one actually wants out of life. Or, as Konstantin Arnold himself sums it up: »For ramp#56, we stopped in villages between Ravello and Palermo that you usually just drive through, and soaked our love in the alcohol that was this land.«

The text printed in ramp #56 is an excerpt of an original seven-page story by Konstantin Arnold. It is part of the series »On the tracks of the beautiful life«, which will be published as a book. The analog short film »What we want« was also made during the trip and was produced by Adrian Kuchenreuther and David Herbst. Shot on Kodak Vision3 Super-8 film, it shows Konstantin Arnold and Catarina Fernandes on their road trip along Italy's southern coast - and attempts to answer the question posed in its own title.

"What do we want anyway? Dream of love or live love? True love, that does not exist because there is just love. What do we want? Take responsibility? For this, but not that, whatever that is. What do we want? To hold a hand without hurting it? A drink in the afternoon, a place that's still open, a phone call. A little numbness, another body to warm yourself. What do we want?"
